Mammals: Imports

Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, how many and what species of mammals have been imported to the UK from outside the EU for the pet trade that were (a) wild-caught and (b) captive-bred in each year since 2010; and if she will make a statement.

This information is not available. Although the species of mammals is recorded on importation paperwork, the EU import rules do not require information to be collected on the purpose of importation or whether the imported animals were bred in captivity or caught from the wild.
