Fundamental freedoms of expression and association are crucial for the long-term stability of the Middle East and North Africa. We continue to encourage the Government of Bahrain to meet all of its human rights obligations in this regard. Across the wider Middle East, we have 50 different projects ongoing that work to safeguard such freedoms, by supporting free and fair elections, and the development of stronger civil society, parliaments, media and judiciaries.
