Question to the Ministry of Defence:

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to page 92 of his Department’s Strategic Defence Review, published 2 June 2025, what progress he has made on bringing forward legislation to protect CNI.

To deliver the SDR recommendations following the announcement of the Defence Investment Plan we will invest £470m to improve the security of military sites in the UK. This will enhance the security and resilience of Defence CNI, including across Defence's most critical sites.

In addition, through the Homeland Defence Programme, the protection of UK CNI remains a core focus of Government resilience efforts. Policy and planning initiatives seek to further strengthen the security and resilience of UK CNI, while increasing cross-government coordination to address emerging threats and vulnerabilities.

Work is underway to determine where new or updated legislative powers may be required to strengthen the Government's ability to protect CNI from national security threats. Any future legislation will be brought forward when Parliamentary time allows.
