Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps he is taking to ensure alcohol product labels warn consumers of the health risks of alcohol.
In March 2017, the Department issued guidance to the public and industry setting out how the UK Chief Medical Officers’ low risk drinking guidelines can best be communicated on the labels of alcoholic drinks to the public. The Department agreed a transitional period with industry until 1 September 2019 to reflect the new guidelines. We are starting to see products with labels that reflect the new guidelines and the Department will continue to work with industry to implement the guidance.
