DEFRA is responsible for the domestic legislation covering statutory nuisances, although local authority environmental health departments are the main enforcers of the statutory noise regime and associated legislation.

There is no requirement under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to notify occupants that any recording apparatus has been installed by local authorities in any on-going statutory nuisance cases. There is also no similar requirement on housing providers.
