Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps her Department is taking to tackle the rate of postpartum haemorrhage in Nottinghamshire.

Both Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust continue surveillance and governance oversight of severe postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), with serious cases reviewed through the Perinatal Safety Incident Review Group. They are embedding the practice of measuring rather than estimating blood loss to support earlier recognition and intervention, alongside other quality improvements.

Following the Ockenden Review, timely risk assessment, escalation and management of PPH are specific learning themes, supported by multidisciplinary education, training and guideline review. The Perinatal Quality Surveillance Group and the local Perinatal Partnership Group continue to oversee progress and seek assurance from both trusts.
