Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, how much the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has spent on its website in the last three years.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has advised that, between April 2011 and April 2014, it spent a total of £1.66 million on its website. The majority of this spend was on staff costs as the website is now supported and maintained internally.

NICE stopped printing its guidance in 2010-11, saving annual print and distribution costs of over £1 million. NICE has advised that it will continue to invest in improvements to its website as it is now the only outlet for the guidance and other products it produces.
