Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what representations he has made to his Chinese counterpart on the conviction in Tianjin province of the human rights lawyer, Wang Quanzhang, to a four and a half-year jail term for subversion of state power.

The former Foreign Secretary raised his concerns about the conviction of Wang Quanzhang with State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his last visit to China. We also highlighted the case during China's last Universal Periodic Review, and have since directly raised our concerns with the Chinese Government.
