Question to the Department for Education:
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, how many schools opened a new sixth form in the last four years.
Since September 2011, 58 new school sixth forms have been established and 111 academies’ requests to open a sixth form have been approved. Local authorities are responsible for making these decisions in relation to maintained schools. The Secretary of State (and more recently the Regional Schools Commissioners on her behalf) is responsible for making these decisions in relation to academies.
