Motorists paying VED annually pay the same rate of vehicle tax regardless of the means of payment. Motorists paying VED by monthly or six-monthly direct debit pay a 5% surcharge, compared to the 10% surcharge on six monthly VED payments. This means that no motorist faces an increased rate of VED as a result of choosing to pay by direct debit. Government has no plans for structural reform of VED this Parliament.
