Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, whether he has met with major supermarkets to discuss (a) reducing plastic packaging and (b) introducing deposit return schemes for plastics.
The Secretary of State has met leaders from retailers, brands, manufacturers and representative organisations to discuss the levels of plastic pollution and how to increase the recyclability of plastics, including ‘on the go’ waste issues. Defra officials have met representatives of major supermarkets where they discussed proposals regarding the introduction of a deposit return scheme.
