Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, how much public money has been granted into research into epilepsy in each of the last five years.

The following table shows estimated expenditure on epilepsy research and development by the National Institute for Health (NIHR) through its research programmes, research centres and units and research fellowships.

Total spend by the NIHR on epilepsy is higher than the figures shown because expenditure by the NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) on this condition cannot be disaggregated from total CRN expenditure.

In addition to research directly relating to epilepsy, the Medical Research Council also supports a broad portfolio of research that aims to improve our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of neuroscience and neurological conditions including epilepsy.
