Question to the HM Treasury:
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, how many high net worth individuals HMRC investigated in (a) 2010, (b) 2011, (c) 2012, (d) 2013, (e) 2014, (f) 2015, (g) 2016, (h) 2017 and (i) 2018.
This question was answered on 4th March 2019
As of 3rd April 2017, HMRC has brought together the High Net Worth Unit and Affluent teams to form a single Wealthy team.
The National Audit Office’s report on “collecting tax from high net worth individuals” advised that as of 2015-16 there were 6,500 high net worth individuals. It reported around a third of the High Net Worth Unit’s customers were subject to an enquiry at the time of the report.
