To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, if he will make an assessment of the potential merits of the abolition of Ofgem.

In Ofgem, we have an independent regulator which has shown that it is prepared to take strong enforcement action when necessary, imposing heavy fines on suppliers for licence breaches, and take decisive action to address consumer concerns about behaviour in the energy sector, such as its referral of the energy market to the Competition and Markets Authority.
