The Department’s National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funds applied health research for the benefit of patients and the public, drives faster translation of basic science discoveries into tangible benefits for patients and the economy, and develops and supports the people who conduct and contribute to applied health research.
In the last five years, the NIHR has spent £114 million on stroke research. A breakdown of this expenditure is shown in the following table.
