Alcoholic Drinks: Misuse

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, pursuant to the Answer of 28 February 2019 to Question 224315, for what reasons his Department has not made a recent estimate based on up to date prices of the cost to the NHS of treating injuries caused by excessive alcohol consumption.

Updating cost estimates of alcohol harm is complex because circumstances, prevalence and treatments may have changed. The Department is exploring the possibility and feasibility of carrying out research to update the cost estimates that are currently available.
