There were 3,6001 finished consultant episodes with a main or secondary procedure of cataract surgery, provided to private patients treated in a National Health Service hospital, in 2013/14. This compares to a total of 365,4701 finished consultant episodes with a main or secondary procedure of cataract surgery. Of those paying privately for treatment it is not possible to identify the source of funding.

This figure does not represent the number of different patients, as a person may have more than one episode of care within the same stay in hospital or in different stays in the same year.
