Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what amount was spent on each category of medical research by the (a) National Institute for Health Research and (b) Medical Research Council in the last period for which figures are available.
Spend on research funded directly by the Department’s National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) is categorised by Health Research Classification System (HRCS) health categories. NIHR expenditure on research infrastructure and systems where spend cannot be attributed to health categories is excluded. The following table shows NIHR spend in health categories in 2014/15.
