Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, whether he has made a recent assessment of the effect on levels of building safety of private building control companies providing other building-related services on construction projects which they sign off as safe.

In July 2017, the Government commissioned an Independent Review into Building Regulations and Fire Safety. The review was published in May 2018 and identified several issues relating to the existing building control system. The Government accepted the report’s findings and we will consult in Spring 2019 on the best way to implement its recommendations.
