Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, with reference to the Impact Assessment entitled Mandating calorie labelling of food and drink in out-of-home settings which identifies conflicting evidence on the harms to those with eating disorders, if he will pause the implementation of mandatory calorie labelling for restaurants while a study is commissioned to examine that matter thoroughly.
We have listened throughout the consultation process and put in place reasonable adjustments to help mitigate any unintended consequences. This includes a provision in the Regulations which permits businesses to provide a menu without calorie information at the express request of the customer.
