Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what recent assessment his Department has made of the potential benefits of youth in promoting community cohesion and inclusion.
Government is committed to building stronger, better integrated communities where people – whatever their background – live, learn, work and socialise together based on shared rights, responsibilities and opportunities.
The importance of young people in this agenda is highlighted in both our Integrated Communities Strategy Green Paper and Integrated Communities Action Plan. This includes the role that youth engagement and social action can play in forging meaningful connections and relationships with people from different backgrounds. That’s why we have committed to working with the National Citizen Service (NCS) Trust and DCMS to support social mixing opportunities for young people in areas of high segregation.
