Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what discussions he has had with his Indian counterpart following the announcement on the 27 March that India had successfully conducted an anti-satellite missile test.
The Indian Foreign Secretary informed the British High Commission about the test on the day that it occurred. While respecting India's right to progress its peaceful space programme, we urge India – particularly as a member of the Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee – to refrain from taking actions that would create debris in space, and encourage them to share plans for space launches with partners and neighbouring countries.
