Question to the Department for Work and Pensions:

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, whether his Department has made an assessment of the potential merits of requiring the immediate notification of work-related or suspected work related suicide or attempted suicide under the RIDDOR regulations.

The Government’s National Suicide Prevention Strategy is the responsibility of the Department of Health and Social Care for England. Wales and Scotland have their own national strategies.

HSE has a strategic objective to reduce work-related ill health, with a particular focus on mental health and stress, as set out in its 10-year strategy - ‘Protecting people and places’. HSE's regulatory interventions are focussed on enabling employers to identify and manage work-related stress risks effectively, preventing a range of different harm outcomes for workers.
