Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many potential victims of modern slavery referred to the National Referral Mechanism in 2018 have (a) been granted residency in the UK as a consequence of their exploitation and (b) agreed to return to their country of origin.

The specific information you have requested is not readily available and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. This is because a manual search through individual records would be required to identify victims of modern slavery who were granted protection-based leave or another form of leave more favourable than discretionary leave as a consequence of their exploitation.

As identified victims include EEA nationals who may be exercising treaty rights it is not possible to provide a compete figure for the number of vic-tims who have agreed to return to their country of origin.

The National Crime Agency publishes statistics on referrals into the National Referral Mechanism on a quarterly basis. Further analysis is contained within the 2018 UK Annual Report on Modern Slavery. These reports are available via the following links:
