Israel: Schools

Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what recent representations he has made to his Israeli counterpart on the reported firing of tear gas into an elementary school in the Israeli-controlled area of Hebron city by Israeli forces on 21 February 2019.

​While we have not raised this specific issue with the Government of Israel, we regularly raise concerns about Israel's use of force in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. While we recognise Israel's legitimate need to deploy security measures, we encourage them to deploy these in a way which minimises tension and to use appropriate force. We have stressed in particular the need to protect children. In instances where there have been accusations of excessive use of force, we have advocated for swift, transparent investigations.
