The department’s review of the management of asbestos in the school estate was published in March 2015.

The department is clear that, under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, the responsibility for managing asbestos lies with the legal duty holder for schools, which is typically the employer. Under these regulations, the relevant duty holder for each school should hold detailed information about the amount and location of asbestos in their buildings and keep this information up-to-date.
