Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, with reference to the Competition and Markets Authority's press release entitled Parking charges: CMA takes action to drive improvements for motorists, published on 16 July 2026, what estimate her Department has made of the number of motorists affected annually by potentially unfair private parking charges.

Data published by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) on vehicle keeper requests, known as Keeper at Date of Event (KADOE) data, provides a proxy for the volume of parking charges issued. This shows a sustained increase over time, from 1.9 million requests in 2012 to over 15 million in the year to September 2025.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government does not hold data on the number of unfair private parking charge notices issued in each of the last five years.
