Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, with reference to the press release entitled UK strengthens commitment to global development as Foreign Secretary becomes UK Governor to the World Bank, published on 27 July 2026, whether his appointment as UK Governor to the World Bank will result in an increase in the administrative costs of the Department.

The World Bank Group (WBG) is one of the UK's most important multilateral development partners, and the Foreign Secretary is pleased to take on the role of UK Governor to the WBG.

The UK's Official Development Assistance allocations were published in March 2026, which includes the planned contributions to the World Bank Group and other multilateral organisations. We protected our contribution to the World Bank Group due to the development outcomes and the value for UK taxpayers' money that it delivers.

There are no new contributions planned before the next replenishment of the Bank's International Development Association (IDA) in 2028. The Bank's administrative budget is funded from the income from its operations and rather than additional shareholder contributions. Ministerial costs related to travel to WBG meetings are published.
