Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what recent estimate he has made of the number of people living with a diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis.

No estimate has been made. However, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), in its guidance ‘Pancreatitis’, published September 2018, states that the annual incidence of chronic pancreatitis in western Europe is about five cases per 100,000 people. The male to female ratio is 7:1 and the average age of onset is between 36 and 55. The NICE guideline can be found at the following link:
