Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what plans his department has for collecting key metrics for the delivery of acute medical care.
We have no plans to do so. NHS England and NHS Improvement advise that most acute hospitals in England have acute medical units. The Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme is designed to improve the treatment and care of patients through an in-depth review of services, benchmarking and presenting evidence to support change. It has produced guidance on acute medical unit delivery, including on capacity, staffing and diagnostic capability. The GIRFT Acute General Medicine workstream is also developing the Summary Acute Medicine Indicator tool, highlighting areas where acute medical care can be optimised.
