The Information Commissioner’s Office is responsible for monitoring and enforcing the application of the UK’s data protection legislation, independently of government.

Personal data processed in the course of a purely personal, private or domestic activity, with no connection to a professional or commercial activity, is outside the scope of the UK’s data protection legislation – regardless of the technology being used.
