Question to the Department for Work and Pensions:

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, pursuant to the Answer of 24 June 2019 to Question 264329 on Universal Credit, what proportion of the 0.239 million of social fund over-payments recovered from claimants was (a) from a grant and (b) arose before 1 April 2010.

I can confirm that 0.38% of the £0.239m recoveries from UC were for SF Community Care Grant and SF Maternity Grants and that 1.77% of the £0.239m recoveries from UC were for Social Fund where the Registration Date was prior to 1 April 2010*.

Where benefit overpayments occur, the Department ensures that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect claimants who are subject to deductions to repay these overpayments.
