Public Bodies: Cost Effectiveness

Question to the HM Treasury:

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, pursuant to the answer of 1 September 2026 to Question 18691 on Office for Road and Rail, if he will list each public body which is required to submit a quarterly efficiency report to his Department.

The central government departments, set out in Table 1.1 of the published Departmental Efficiency Plans, are expected to report efficiencies to HM Treasury on a quarterly basis, in line with the Government Efficiency Framework.

The small and independent departments, set out in Table 2.18 (Section 19) of the published Departmental Efficiency Plans, are required to submit efficiency reports to HM Treasury on a bi-annual basis, rather than a quarterly basis, using a proportionate process. Reporting arrangements for small and independent bodies are subject to bespoke agreements that reflect their resource constraints.
