Question to the Department for Work and Pensions:
To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, pursuant to the Answer of 26 June 2019 to Question 267247 on Children: Maintenance, what assessment she has made of the effect on inequality in the constituent parts of the UK of calculating child maintenance liabilities using gross income.
An assessment into the effect of the child maintenance calculation on inequality in different constituencies in the UK has not been conducted. Child maintenance is calculated as a percentage of a non-resident parent’s income, according to a formula that is intended to ensure that maintenance is affordable and adapts to changes in living costs over time.
