The Department is rebuilding or refurbishing buildings in the worst condition at over 500 schools across England, through the Priority School Building Programme. This programme covers local authority maintained schools and academies and is expected to complete in 2021.

The Department’s Condition Data Collection, due to complete this year, will provide a high-level assessment of the condition of state funded schools in England, and will help inform future capital funding policy and programmes. In addition, the Department has allocated over £7.4 billion in condition funding since 2015 to maintain and improve local authority, voluntary-aided and academy school buildings.
