Local Government: Reorganisation

Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, whether the legal advice she has received relating to local government reorganisation also pertains to Surrey.
This question was answered on 19th October 2026
The Secretary of State’s statement on Monday 7 September did not concern Surrey. East Surrey Council and West Surrey Council have been established in law and will assume the full range of local authority functions on 1 April 2027. It is longstanding principle that the Government does not comment on or publish legal advice.
