Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what recent assessment he has made of the potential merits of the inclusion of Gypsy/Romany Gypsy, Roma and Irish Traveller as distinct categories in the NHS data dictionary.
No recent assessment has been made. The NHS Data Model and Dictionary reflects the latest approved Information Standard for the data submission of ethnicity categories in the National Health Service. This is derived from the Office for National Statistics’ categories in 2001, which do not currently include Gypsy/Romany Gypsy, Roma, and Irish Traveller groupings.
