Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health, how many people in England were at high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes in (a) 2010 and (b) the most recent date for which figures are available.
Non-diabetic hyperglycaemia, also known as pre-diabetes or impaired glucose regulation, refers to raised blood glucose levels, but not in the diabetic range. People with non-diabetic hyperglycaemia are at increased risk of getting Type 2 diabetes. The National Cardiovascular Intelligence Network is developing estimates of non-diabetic hyperglycaemia at a local level (local authority and clinical commissioning group). These are expected to be available by late summer 2015.
