Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, whether his Department has made an assessment of the potential effect of the UK leaving the EU on the Falkland Islands.
Ministers and officials have met regularly with the Overseas Territories to brief them on the issues raised by the UK’s renegotiation of its EU membership. The 2015 Joint Ministerial Council (JMC) communiqué acknowledges the interests of the Territories in the forthcoming referendum and recognises the strength and importance of the relationship between the Territories and the EU. It also confirms that the Government will continue to consult the Territories in order for their views on reform to be taken into account. The Government’s position is that the UK and its Overseas Territories will be stronger, safer and better off remaining in a reformed EU.
