Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, with reference to the written statement of 3 September 2026, HCWS311, on Statement of Changes in Immigration rules, what estimate has been made of the number of foreign national students who will visit the United Kingdom a year as a consequence of the changes made on the Erasmus+ scheme.

In 2018/19, there were approximately 31,000 inbound higher education (HE) student mobilities through the Erasmus+ programme, and around 16,000 outbound HE student mobilities in the same year. The department expects there will be a greater number of HE mobilities on reassociation, given the expansion of the programme.
