Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, if he will estimate the hourly cost of closure of the M6 motorway between junctions 5 and 6.

The cost impact of a full motorway closure is impossible to accurately quantify as it is dependent on a number of variables including time of day, day type and month of year and the volume and composition of traffic. Also the behaviour and decision making of the drivers would depend on the severity of the situation and their intended destination.
