Question to the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero:

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what assessment she has made of the potential for waste heat from industrial and commercial sources in Essex to be used in local heat networks.

The Department has developed the National Zoning Model to identify areas in England where heat networks could be the lowest cost low carbon form of providing heating. The model includes a database of over 30,000 sources of waste heat (from a range of published sources) that could be used in heat networks. In Essex this includes a number of waste-water treatment works, power stations, energy from waste plants, and industrial cold stores.
