The department keeps workforce capability under regular review, including the availability of professional finance and accountancy expertise across HM Treasury and the wider Government Finance Function.

Many roles in HM Treasury require a blend of finance, policy and economic expertise and therefore do not necessarily need to be filled by professionally qualified accountants. Economic and analytic professionals are also very important in delivering HM Treasury's objectives and decision-making. The department continues to invest in strengthening financial, economic and analytic capability through targeted learning and development programmes.
