The Government committed to translating the recommendations from the Amos investigation, alongside Donna Ockenden’s national recommendations and those from the Thirlwall inquiry, into a national maternity and neonatal action plan by the end of 2026. The action plan is being developed through the National Maternity and Neonatal Taskforce and its expert reference groups.

The Government is establishing England’s first statutory Maternity and Neonatal Commissioner through the Health Bill. Further details on the appointment process and timetable will be provided in due course.
