Motor Vehicles: Excise Duties

(asked on 20th March 2020) - View Source

Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, if he will take steps to allow people over 70 years old that are asked to stay indoors for an extended period during the covid-19 outbreak to apply for a statutory notification that they will not drive their vehicle during that time in order to receive a refund for any full months of remaining tax; and if he will make a statement.

The registered keeper of a vehicle can make a Statutory Off Road Notification online, by phone or post to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency. When such a notification is received, a refund of any remaining full months vehicle excise duty will be issued to the registered keeper. Advice on how to make a SORN can be found online at GOV.UK.
