Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, whether she plans to extend the developer remediation contract to buildings under 11 metres, so that developers pay for remediating fire safety defects in the buildings they built.
We are not planning to re-open the Developer Remediation Contract. 53 developers have made contractual commitments to remediate or pay to remediate over 2,600 buildings with life-critical fire safety defects, at a cost to themselves of around £4.2bn. We expect those developers to accelerate progress without compromising safety.
The Department is committed to protecting residential leaseholders from bearing the costs of remediating historic fire safety-related defects as far as is proportionate and offering support to both residents and leaseholders. New funding has been made available to address serious life-safety risks associated with cladding in under 11 metre buildings.
