The Ministry of Defence keeps the UK's force posture under constant review to ensure that it remains aligned with the evolving security environment. The Strategic Defence Review made it clear that owing to a changing geopolitical context, Defence needed to increase focus on warfighting readiness and our leadership role within NATO. This has driven prioritisation of the activity that our Armed Forces conducts and has shaped the ongoing investment in military capability to ensure that Defence remains capable of deterring threats, defending the United Kingdom and its Overseas Territories, and contributing to international security. Defence continually assesses geopolitical developments, emerging threats and opportunities, and adapts its planning, readiness, global engagement and capability development accordingly.
