Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what her policy is on the status of overseas nationals that overstay their visas as a result of (a) travel restrictions, (b) self-isolation and (c) being infected with covid-19 during the outbreak of that disease; and if she will make a statement.
We are taking steps to ensure foreign nationals will not be penalised as a result of issues related to coronavirus which are outside of their control.
This is one of many issues where we are taking a compassionate and pragmatic approach. Anyone wishing to discuss their personal circumstances can contact the Home Office via the coronavirus immigration mailbox - CIH@homeoffice.gov.uk - or call the freephone number, 0800 678 1767 which is staffed Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
