Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what assessment he has made of the potential impact of Bezalel Smotrich’s comments on 6 October 2026 on the annexation of southern Lebanon on Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity; and what diplomatic, legal and practical measures he is taking to protect civilians, prevent annexation and secure the withdrawal of Israeli forces in the context of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

I spoke to the Lebanese FM and Ambassador recently to reiterate our support for the government of Lebanon and the sovereignty and security territorial integrity of Lebanon.
