Question to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport:
To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, if she will bring forward legislative proposals to relocate regional assets held in national galleries and libraries to their areas of origin to promote regional tourism.
DCMS does not plan to legislate to relocate regional assets held in national galleries, museums and libraries. The Government supports and encourages the sharing of the national collections across the United Kingdom, to enable as many people as possible to see them and to promote regional tourism. Several national institutions are either based, or have branches, outside of London and collections are shared across the UK through loans of objects and touring exhibitions. For example, the National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, British Library and Tate each have extensive national loans and touring programmes.
